Art galleries, museums, theatres and libraries

Most art galleries, museums, theatres and libraries in Queensland offer assistance and services for people with disability. Some of these may include:

  • guided tours for visitors with a hearing or vision impairment
  • Auslan-interpreted tours and services
  • space for wheelchairs, mobility aids and prams for events and activities
  • the use of adaptive technologies such as:
    • Smartview—closed circuit magnifier that enlarges text and images on a colour monitor
    • magnifying glasses for use while reading small print
    • MAGic—screen magnification software with speech
    • table-top magnifiers with built-in lights for library reading
    • infra-red sound reinforcement for hearing impaired patrons
    • professionally signed and audio described performances (selected theatre shows).

Because everyone's needs are different, it's a good idea to contact the venue to check they can accommodate your needs.

You can also find out if your local gallery, museum, theatre or library accepts the Companion Card.
