Posted 16 March 2012

A resource kit with information for disability service providers, people with a disability, families and carers about preventing and responding to abuse, neglect and exploitation is now available.

The kit has been prepared by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services—Disability and Community Care Services.

Information for disability service providers, service managers and service staff includes:

  • a tips and resources booklet
  • fact sheets about preventing, responding to and recognising abuse, neglect and exploitation; as well as a fact sheet about professional obligations.

For people with a disability and their families and carers, fact sheets are available about topics including:

  • What is abuse?
  • Recognising abuse, neglect and exploitation
  • What to do if you suspect abuse.

A poster and help card to support abuse prevention are also provided.

The resources are available on the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services website. The kit can also be ordered by sending an email to disabilityinfo@disability.qld.gov.au.
