Anti-discrimination laws: call for comment

Posted 23 January 2012

Submissions closed for this discussion paper on 1 February 2012.

The Australian Government is accepting submissions about issues raised in a discussion paper about consolidating Commonwealth anti-discrimination laws.

The discussion paper, Consolidation of Anti-Discrimination Laws, considers changes to federal anti-discrimination legislation-including the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cwlth)-that will lead to the introduction of a single Act.

Currently, federal anti-discrimination legislation is split into several Acts-the Age Discrimination Act 2004 (Cwlth), the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cwlth), the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cwlth) and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cwlth).

The decision to consolidate the legislation was made by the Australian Government as part of Australia's Human Rights Framework.
