4RPH (1296AM)—a radio reading service for people with a print disability

Posted 17 April 2012

People with a print disability can tune into RPH—a radio reading service that offers a spoken word alternative to print and online media, such as daily local, state and national newspapers and magazines.

4RPH in Brisbane is Queensland's RPH service, broadcasting on 1296 AM, and also in digital.

The RPH Network includes 18 AM/FM radio services around Australia, as well as digital radio services in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

Programs on 4RPH focus on assisting people with a print disability to participate fully in social, political and economic life in the community. Articles are broadcast from particular publications, such as:

  • The Australian
  • Australian Financial Review
  • The Courier-Mail
  • BRW
  • Time Magazine
  • The Woman's Weekly
  • New Idea
  • Home & Garden
  • Men's Health.

There is also subject-based programming that includes articles from different sources about particular topics.

Volunteers perform on-air work between 6am and 11pm daily on 4RPH and the BBC World Service is relayed at night.

The program guide is available, and you can call the station on (07) 3831 1296 or view the station's website at Radio 4RPH.
