Australian Government financial assistance

If you provide full-time care to someone with a severe disability or medical condition, or someone who is frail aged, you may be eligible to receive a Carer Allowance or a Carer Payment from the Australian Government. 

Queensland Government support

Carer Business Discount Card

If you receive an Australian Government Carer Allowance or Carer Payment, and you live in Queensland, you become eligible for a Queensland Government Carer Business Discount Card.

The Carer Business Discount Card provides discounts on products and services at participating businesses.

Reducing the cost of living

Reducing the cost of living is a guide to the concessions, retail discounts, rebates and assistance available to Queensland families, pensioners and those who may be financially stretched or wishing to save on expenses.

Companion Card

The Companion Card scheme enables eligible people with lifelong disability to participate at venues and activities without incurring the cost of a second ticket for their companion.

Loans and financial advice

Mortgage relief loans offer short-term assistance if you are experiencing difficulties with your home loan repayments.

The No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) is available to individuals and families on a low income. It is a community-based program enabling you to access interest free loans and credit for the purchase of essential goods and services.

The Australian Government's financial management program provides emergency support and financial counselling to people who are experiencing financial difficulties.

Lifeline's Financial First Aid counsellors offer free independent financial advice for Queenslanders who are in financial trouble and looking for help.

Advice for senior carers

For older and grandparent carers, the National Information Centre on Retirement Investments (NICRI) provides information, tools and calculators to help people make informed financial and investment decisions. Phone 1800 020 110 (toll-free).
