If you feel your home is threatened—or authorities tell you to leave—make your way to an emergency evacuation centre.
Emergency evacuation centres
Local councils set up emergency evacuation centres when needed. They're run by the Red Cross and provide a safe refuge. You'll find immediate basic needs—food, clothing, shelter—as well as information and personal support.
If a natural disaster is declared, the Australian Red Cross will set up a register for people who have been evacuated or relocated. If you've been forced to leave home because of a natural disaster, make sure your name is included on the register. Relatives and friends will be able to find you much sooner.
