Disability Action Week awards

The Disability Action Week Awards are now held bi-ennially in conjunction with the Queensland Disability Conference. The next conference and awards program is scheduled to be held in 2013.

2011 Disability Action Week Awards

The presentation of the Disability Action Week Awards was a highlight of the week in 2011, and an opportunity to acknowledge the extraordinary individuals and organisations who contributed to improving the quality of life for people with a disability across the state.

2011 Disability Action Week award winners

Click on each award to read about the 2011 award winners:

  • The individual award recognises volunteers and disability sector employees who have supported and advocated for people with a disability consistently and over a substantial period of time.
  • The community organisation award recognises not-for-profit, community-based organisations that have supported and advocated for people with a disability consistently and over a substantial period of time.
  • This education and the arts award recognises individuals or organisations that have developed, implemented and promoted innovative and inclusive programs to assist people with a disability to gain knowledge and skills.
  • This government award recognises local and state government agencies that have supported and advocated for people with a disability consistently and over a substantial period of time.
  • The Minister’s award recognises an individual, organisation or project for excellence in initiatives that promote disability awareness or inclusiveness.
  • The private enterprise award was awarded to a business that has supported or advocated for people with a disability consistently and over a substantial period of time.
  • The media award recognises media coverage that has helped to break down stereotypes of people with a disability.
  • The reconciliation and diversity award recognises an individual, organisation or project that has helped improve the lives of people with a disability who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, or who are from a culturally and linguistically diverse background.
  • The outstanding initiative award recognises a specific project (short or long term) that has achieved outstanding results for people with a disability and their families and carers.
