Access to CAEATI

Aids, equipment and assistive technologies can help you perform tasks you may otherwise be unable to, support you to be more independent, and contribute to better quality of life. The Community Aids, Equipment and Assistive Technology Initiatives (CAEATI) provides financial help with the cost of these items for eligible people with a disability.

CAEATI categories

Communication support (up to a maximum of $4,500 per person)

Communication support includes items that assist people to connect and exchange information with their communities of choice, for example:

  • Speech generating device
  • PODD communication books

Community mobility (up to a maximum of $4,500 per person)

Community mobility includes items that improve physical access in the community, for example:

  • Power assist wheels

Active participation (up to a maximum of $1,000 per person)

Active participation includes items to support a person in recreational and civic activities, for example:

  • Outdoor recreational wheelchairs
  • Sports wheelchairs

Eligibility

To be eligible for CAEATI, you must:

  • not be entitled to receive the full cost of the aids, equipment or assistive technologies under another government-funded program; AND
  • not be receiving, or entitled to, any form of legal compensation related to your disability; AND
  • be assessed as eligible for specialist disability services.

How to apply

1. Confirm your specialist disability services eligibility

If you have not had a Disability Services needs-assessment:

2. Find your CAEATI prescriber

Once you have confirmed your eligibility for specialist disability services, you can contact a CAEATI prescriber to organise an assessment for the aids, equipment or assistive technologies you require.

3. Submit your CAEATI subsidy application form

Take the CAEATI subsidy application form to your CAEATI prescriber, who will work with you to complete it, and who can submit the form on your behalf.

What happens next?

You or the person who submitted your subsidy application form will receive a confirmation by email (within approximately 2 business days) that your application has been received.

You will then be notified by phone and post of the outcome of your application (within approximately 10–15 business days) and provided with instructions and documentation to help you order your item/s from a registered vendor.
