Western Queensland floods 2012

About the western Queensland floods

Heavy rainfall in January and February 2012 caused severe flooding in many western Queensland regions including Roma, Mitchell, Charleville and St George.

Impacts on the environment and associated infrastructure included damage to property, disruption of sewerage and waste management services, and the closure of national parks.

Government response

The Queensland Government activated Personal Hardship Assistance Scheme grant packages for the local government areas of Balonne, Barcaldine, Blackall-Tambo, Central Highlands, Maranoa, Murweh, and Paroo. Applications for assistance closed on 5 April 2012.

Reconstruction continues. The Queensland Reconstruction Authority provides regular updates on the reconstruction efforts.
