Townsville storm 2012

About the Townsville storm

A severe storm hit Townsville in March 2012, bringing winds in excess of 100 kph and causing widespread environmental and property damage to the suburbs of Aitkenvale, Garbutt and Vincent.

Government response

The Queensland Government activated Personal Hardship Assistance Scheme grant packages for the affected areas of Aitkenvale, Garbutt and Vincent. Applications for assistance closed on 20 April 2012.

Reconstruction continues. The Queensland Reconstruction Authority provides regular updates on the reconstruction efforts.
