Tropical Cyclone Yasi 2011

About Tropical Cyclone Yasi

Tropical Cyclone Yasi hit the coast near Mission Beach on 3 February 2011, then travelled west across North Queensland before weakening to a tropical low near Mount Isa.

At Category 5 with wind gusts of up to 285kph, Yasi was one of the most powerful cyclones experienced in Queensland since records began.

Government response

The Queensland Government activated Personal Hardship Assistance Scheme grant packages for the affected areas of the southern tropical coast. Applications for assistance closed in 2011.

The Queensland Reconstruction Authority provides regular updates on all disaster reconstruction efforts.
