The Northern Outlook Community Training and Adventure Based Learning Centre

The Northern Outlook, located in Cairns, is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). We provide training for community organisations who work with young people, through adventure based learning programs.

Our programs are designed to support positive behavioural change for vulnerable young people. We provide high quality training and support services for agency staff members to develop, deliver and evaluate effective group programs. Group programs range from 1 day to 10 day expeditions.

Note: The Northern Outlook does not take bookings from the general public for young people to participate in adventure based learning.

Accredited training

As a Registered Training Organisation, The Northern Outlook provides accredited training from the Outdoor Recreation Training package.

Non-accredited training

• Program Development and Facilitation is a 6 month, on-the-job training program that develops the expertise necessary to conduct effective developmental adventure based programs.
• Program Risk Management training maximises safety in working with young people and adventure based learning.
• Adventure Activity Skills is instructor training offered in skills such as challenge ropes courses, canoeing, abseiling, rock climbing, problem solving, hiking and base-camping.

New location coming

From April 2012, 69 Redlynch Road, Redlynch, will be the permanent operational base for The Northern Outlook.

The Redlynch site provides an ideal base of operations for a wide range of adventure based learning activities due to its size and bushland setting. It has a sense of isolation, while being easily accessible by other essential services and client organisations.
