Adventure based learning for at-risk youth

Adventure (outdoor) based learning and education programs aim to:

  • engage positively with young people and their families, including early intervention and development strategies for vulnerable young people who are at risk
  • give young people unique opportunities to reflect on their behaviour, values and choices
  • support positive behavioural change by providing constructive ways to learn and grow
  • provide participants with activities such as canoeing, hiking, kayaking, abseiling and rock climbing.

The Outlook located near Boonah specialises in supporting agencies who provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, young people involved in the youth justice system, people affected by domestic violence, and the disability sector.

The Northern Outlook Community Training and Adventure Based Learning Centre located in Cairns trains community organisations to deliver adventure-based learning for young people.
