Your maximum rent
If you are living in public housing in a remote Indigenous community, the maximum rent is based on the rent charged for public housing properties with similar access to services and amenities in an Indigenous community. The maximum rent for the property is based on the number of bedrooms the property has and the condition it is in.
For all communities, this maximum rent is based on similar properties in Burketown. The rent paid by a household cannot be more than the maximum rent. This means all households pay an affordable amount of rent for the property they live in.
Your rent is assessed based on the income of each person living in the property. All households will pay approximately 25% of their total assessable (after-tax) income as rent or the maximum rent (shown below), whichever is the lower amount.
