Information about recent voluntary redundancies
If your role is made redundant as a result of workplace change, you have a number of options.
You can choose to:
Accept a redundancy package
A redundancy package is designed to support you during transition from your current employment and while deciding your next steps.
If you choose to accept a redundancy, your package will include:
- a payment of two weeks’ full-time pay for each full-time equivalent year of service, with a maximum of 52 weeks
- an incentive payment of 12 weeks’ pay or $6500 (whichever is greater)
- your accrued annual leave
- any accrued long service leave if you have worked for at least one year.
Estimating a package
There is a package calculator which will help you estimate the payment you could expect if your role becomes redundant.
Seek alternative placement/redeployment
If you do not wish to accept a redundancy at this stage, you may seek alternative placement or redeployment in other parts of the public sector.
This may involve:
- matching your skills and qualifications with a role
- providing you with training for another role within the public service.
Even if a role is not found, a package will be provided that has a payment of two weeks’ full-time pay for each full-time equivalent year of service (with a maximum of 52 weeks), your accrued annual leave and any accrued long service leave if you have worked for at least one year.
Support is available
There are numerous assistance programs available which you and your family are encouraged to use.
The Enhanced Employee Assistance Program is designed to help with new employment pathways, skills, retraining, and career advice.
You can also access professional counselling and coaching to deal with work and life issues.
