Queensland Disaster Heroes

The 2011 Queensland Week celebrations that ran from 4 to 13 June recognised those who displayed initiative and bravery during the 2010–2011 Queensland floods and Tropical Cyclone Yasi.

Queenslanders were invited to nominate people who had demonstrated community initiative, bravery, and strength during these natural disasters.

More than 3500 people were nominated and invited to one of 10 recognition ceremonies across the state during Queensland Week.

Each Queensland Disaster Hero was awarded a special commemorative medal as a keepsake and reminder of their contribution.
