ANZAC Centenary

Between 2014 and 2018 Australia will commemorate the ANZAC Centenary, marking 100 years since our involvement in the First World War. On 25 April 2015 the country will observe the centenary of the ANZAC landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey.

The Centenary is an opportunity to remember those courageous Queenslanders who have fought and served in all wars, conflicts and peace operations, and especially remember the sacrifice of those who have given their lives in service. It is our chance to honour the Digger qualities of mateship, teamwork and resilience that live on in the spirit of Australians to this day.

To commemorate the Centenary, the Queensland Government will support the activities of community groups and directly manage and coordinate a number of activities focusing on:

  • commemorating key historical events focussing on those involving Queensland Units or organisations
  • projects creating an enduring legacy for future generations of Queenslanders that will last well beyond the Centenary
  • supporting Queensland community groups and organisations to hold events and organise projects commemorating or promoting the ANZAC Centenary.

The Minister Assisting the Premier on Veterans’ Affairs Glen Elmes is responsible for Queensland’s commemorative program, and he is advised by the Queensland Advisory Committee for the Commemoration of the ANZAC Centenary – chaired by Lieutenant General (Ret’d) Mark Evans AO, DSC – on all Centenary activities.

Details of Queensland Centenary events and activities will be made available here as they are confirmed.
