    • Mount Isa—key railhead connects to coastal Townsville (about 977km) to the eastern seaboard carrying passengers, minerals and livestock
    • Townsville—2 major rail networks: the North Coast line between Brisbane and Cairns (Tilt Train and standard services), and the Mount Isa line to the west providing Charters Towers with twice-weekly services
  • Road
    • Mount Isa—highway links to Brisbane and Townsville, and key Northern Territory centres (Alice Springs and Darwin)
    • Townsville—Bruce Highway links to north and south coasts, Flinders Highway connects to Queensland's western areas, including Charters Towers 135km away
